They claimed that the airline has a black-out date for travel agents for the flight that I’m booked on and want several hundred more dollars. They told me this after the ticket was already issued, then had it voided. Can they do this (legally)? What can I do to make them honor their original price?

The travel agent did in all likelyhood make a mistake and did not want to pay the difference out of their own pocket to the airline.
In terms of legality, where are you located? The country’s laws will make a huge difference.
Airlines typically WILL enforce so called „illegal” ticketing. What I mean by it is, a ticket, whether intentionally or not, issued for the wrong fare.
I would call the airline and see what they have to say about it. In all reality, you did nothing wrong and had a ticket issued to you in good faith. The travel agent should eat the cost.
Make sure you have the original price in writing and that it wasn’t just an estimate. Read their „fine print” and if it doesn’t say anything about that then go to a lawyer. If you can’t afford a lawyer than go to a different travel agency, don’t use that one again.
I agree with tonalc. I don’t think this is legal, but read the fine print. Also, someone would think that after they issued a ticket, they can’t void it unless if they have a good reason.
I don’t know the legality of this. You might try contacting ASTA for information:
Or if the travel agent is an independent, contact NACTA:
NOOOOO THAT IS SOOOO GAY!!!
