He must have a current passport to travel to Canada…passport from his home country needs his green card too, to re-enter the U.S. American CITIZENS may enter Canada by land without a passport for a few more months, but no other nationality. At 2nd site , enter his nationality, enter that he is an alien resident of the U.S.A., enter his destination and click for the info…you will see he does need a passport.
The larger problem may be getting back. He nedds a „parole to travel” from the State Department before he can travel on his green card.
