Im in Japan right now learning Japanese, and I wanted to be an interpreter. But I find that I like taking pictures and I would like to persue that. However, my goal in life is to travel the world and live in Spain and Italy at some point in my life. I also bellydance, and I am considering persuing that as well. Im only 16, but my time to choose a major in college is running out. I know that I want to deal with the arts though. I love dancing and photos and I love meeting people from all over.
Also, I want to know, what kinds of photography are there? Fields of study and such, what can I do?What are my options?

from what you said, I think travel photography would suit you best. Taking photos of people playing volleyball and visiting sightseeing destinations, for travel brochures.
Your time is not running out.
In the US, most successful students don’t choose a major until at least halfway through their softmore year of university. And, the average age for that is 25.
There are thousands of kinds of photography. Photographing dead bodies for the police, or buildings for estate agents (Realtors), or children for school photos, or wildlife, or war photography, or weddings, or medical, or advertisements with pretty models, anything really… some are grisly, some are glamorous.
For wildlife, do biology, for travel, just build a portfolio (maybe a photography or arts major), for medical and police, there are dedicated training centers, for war photography you might study politics, or join the army (they have a great training program). Study what you want to photograph.
Start building your portfolio in Japan.
I have been a photographer for over 20yrs and started when i was around 17yrs old. I can tell you that first u have to hav a plan and if photography is something that you like to do then you should go to a 2 or 4yrs school, get your degree( that is very important) make sure u take classes on business because sooner of later you r going to start making money and it will become a business but unlike others you will be doing something you truly enjoy and as you know most people hate their jobs but you will have a career.
I also joined the USAF which gave me the chance to travel all around the world as a photographer, yes there are photographers in the military. Now if u go that route (join the military) join the US Air Force. The USAF is big on education and very big on moral, in other words they like to keep their people happy. I really had the best 12yrs of my life while serving my country.

I went to Antonelli Institute of Art & Photography, worked at a photolab as a dark room techintion, joined the US Air Force as a Combat Camera Photographer and now work in Kuwait for CSA,ltd as a media photographer. I have been enjoying the ride so far and I hope this helps you out

That’s a good start, you are yong and with goals already set.
When in Spain stay in Madrid or Saragoza, they are good places to be; In Italy, Sorrento or Milan.
To be a travel Photographer, (I was one), in the begining contact Ad companies, Travel agencies Head Quarters, (not the regular office) place a clasified in the papers „Photographer travelling next month to……. now receiving assingments, please contact..”
In the begining probably will be just one asingment or none, but do not get down, keep doing it.
When you are in the place, take pictures of every thing, trying to cover different angles than ordinary people do. Even if you do not have an asingment; as soon as you come back contact the agencies and show your work, but be sure is the best; the pictures must speak by themselves. you do not have to explain them.
Photography schools teach you the basics, but is up tu you to perfect it, so practice makes the master.
