french.about.com is the best site i have found along with an extensive library at wordreference.com, it has idiomatic expressions as well as a forum with french speakers.
there used to be ALM language tapes, they are probably CDs by now.
but you just kept listening to the tapes, and repeating, and practicing.
The Rosetta Stone apparently works pretty well, ive never tried it though, and it is kind of expensive
hmm try to find websites that show meaning of french or if there is. you could get a english french dictionary
