Would it be possible for a 16 year old to travel alone to Bulgaria to visit a friend?
I only speak English, and I am wondering if it would be very difficult to connect multiple flights in other countries (for example, one flight was connecting in Germany)
Any tips would be helpful

Connecting flights are easy, same with the trains. You don’t need to be able to speak any language besides English to get down to Bulgaria. It should be a piece of cake for a 16 year old…. but then, there are plenty of adults who can’t make it to the other side of their towns.
You may want to check if a minor can travel alone across borders or if some parental authorization document is required.
As the other answerer said, nearly everybody can speak English in Europe, and certainly airport staff.
