My dad is thinking of taking us to Mexico this summer for vacation (the beach area where tourists go) and I’m worried. I keep telling him „swine flu, swine flu!” but he said he was reading people’s travel stories who just came back from Mexico and they’re not sick. It’s not reassuring me. It sounds like a fun vacation with swimming with the dolphins and all but I’m just curious..Thanks.

You have more of a chance catching the flu driving through San Diego on your way to Tijuana than in Tijuana these days.
The media hype about the flu and violence has done a terrible injustice to Mexico… no innocent tourists have been involved in any either situation.
Come on down and have fun. The bargains in Mexico now are great, and the people are friendly.

Of course it is safe to travel to Mexico. The news says that over 70 countries have swine flu now, just like regular flu, except that this one is of a new type. It is more likely a young person will contract swine flue due to not having a build up immunity like an adult of over 50 has. So, your dad should go and enjoy his vacation, but remember not to touch his nose or lips, mouth. Watch out for ‘coughs’ keep ‘em under wraps. That after shaking hands he should be careful handling food, it is difficult to immediately to wash your hands after shaking someone hands. It is hands shaking that passes the germs most often.
Swine flu is less of a problem than drug-related violence in Mexico right now. Killings are taking place in tourist areas like Cancun, so maybe your Dad should listen to the news or do some reading on the problem before he books your vacation.
Answers from people who get their info from watching the TV news are no where near as useful and reliable as info from those of us LIVING in Mexico. Those who said that you should come and enjoy yourself are absolutely right! Please read the excellent article below by an award- winning American journalist who lives in Mexico.
More Swine flu cases in the US than in Mexico (World health organization).
the „deadly mexican swine flu H1N1″ has already invaded the world.
where ever you go it will be there.
it’s fine.go.
Actually, media likes to be alarmist in exces, they make money doing so.
The truth is that currently the flu is no more a matter in México.
