I am planning a week-long Caribbean vacation and want to know if going thu a travel agent is worth it? Should I just book on a travel site like expedia?

You can book your trip online cause you would be given more offers like renting a car, hotel while a travel agent would only offer tickets for your trip. Are you can find out who prices are cheaper . You can look at the prices here
There are many instances where a travel agent can get a better price, better room, better air and better transfers than you can. Besides, since you don’t pay them why not take advantage of their expertice?
Plus, if you are in trouble while traveling…they will be there for you. Most of the time, they have already visited the destination you are considering and can give valuable insite.

You should ALWAYS book through a travel agent. Getting a rough idea online about where you would like to go is a great start….but a travel agent will have all the steps to your trip in mind when it comes to booking. It would stuck to get all the way to the airport and realize that you did not have transfers included in your package. Or it would really really suck to get all the way to travel time and get an email from the airline saying that your flight times have changed and you are not going to arrive until the following day….cutting your vacation short! Sales come through to travel agents daily and they can help you have a dream vacation without charging you anything.
This is the second year in a row that I obtain all of my information about the trip I want on line and then phone the agent to book it. Last year I used gotraveldirect.com and booked a wild card. They guaranteed where we wanted to go (Cancun), 4.5 stars or better, and the dates we wanted. The cost was $899.99 Cdn per person. We stayed at the Grand Solaris in Cancun and it was superb. The food was amazing – no reservations required for a la carte and as many a la carte as you want.
Its all a matter of preference, if you have never gone to the Caribbean then I think going to a travel agent is good b/c if you have any questions you’ll get them answered right there, and plus they know from experience and clients’ opinions as to where they would recommend you to stay or go. But going online to get an idea of the place your interested in is okay, and then you can visit a travel agent and see there opinion.
You could check on line for prices and what you get for your money than check several travel agents and see what they come up with. Than go with the best price and accommodations.
