I often see posts complaining about airline travel. Since deregulation in the industry and fierce competition to move people at bargain basement prices; the airlines have worked hard to survive. To do this they downsized, merged, added seats, cut extra services, and employees have also taken cuts in pay and benefits. A first class fare in most instances still get the royal treatment; but cabin class is most likely flying cheaper than bus or train fare. Given this, the flight attendants whom are really there for the safety of the passengers spend a great deal of time seeing to your comfort, waiting on passengers wanting cocktails and watching the kids for Mom and Dad who are so tired from getting everyone to the airport on time have decided to take a two hour nap. The flight crews are professional and do their best to get you to your destination speedily and comfortably all for $99 each way from NY to Disney World. So 1 to 5 stars what do you expect and what is 5 star service these day’s?

Only stellar A+ service I’ve ever had was on a private charter where you can still slap a flight attendants *** and still have a job the next day.
It really depends on what you expect from your flight. With airlines cutting costs because people are not as willing to pay higher airfares, don’t expect a hot meal like they used to serve on transcontinental flights. Air travel it seems is becoming more of a way to get from point A to point B. It is not as luxurious anymore. Just think of the hassles of going through security. Growing up, it was never like it is today. Also we were able to go to the gate to pick up our loved ones. Now we have to be at baggage claim. But I think the airlines with the exception of the low cost carriers all get an average grade (3 stars). JetBlue, Southwest and Air Tran would receive higher marks (4 – 4.5 stars).
I think a five star service would be good seat pitch versus cramming as many seats as possible on the flight. I like JetBlue with their TVs on the back of every seat. Also good service would mean an emptier plane. I don’t like flying with every seat taken. I prefer a half empty plane so I can spread out and have an entire row to myself.
