Rameshwaram
Being an important religious spot and a tourist one too it is well connected. One can choose to go by train road or air. It is connected by rail to all major towns like Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy and Tanjavur. Buses and taxis are easily available to the major towns of Tamil Nadu.
The Government has also done its bit to make it more accessible. Buses are plied by the The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation.
Those who wish to go by air for them the nearest airport is at Madurai which is 173 kms away.
The temple is in the island of Rameshwaram of the South, linked to the mainland by a bridge.
The deity here constitutes one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India. Rameswaram Tourism is a terrific holiday destination and it attracts thousands of tourists every year.

from Kanyakumari you have Govt run bus services ply to Rameshwaram. Also services available from private operators. night services available.
.or You can hire a taxi from Trivandrum or Kanyakumari (best option for 5 adults + kids) enroute you can visit to trichendur also if you wish.
approximatly 300 km each way may take approx 8 hours
Rameswaram to Kanyakumari, the shortest route is via ramanathapuram, Kizhakari, Sikkal, Tuticorin, Tiruchendur and Koodankulam, all along the coast. most likely not in good shape.
other 2 alternatives – one, from Ramanathapuram, take the Madurai road (NH49 ) till Aruppukottai, then go on NH45B to Tuticorin and thereon. Other route would be to go all the way to Madurai on NH49 itself, then take NH7 through Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli and Panagudi to Kanyakumari.
There is a shorter route between Rameswaram and Kanyakumari but this is not adisable s the road is very bad and narro.
Therefore, the appropriate route is Kanyakumari-Madurai-Tutukorin-Ramanathap… and the journey time approx 8 Hrs each way. There are a number of buses plying between Kanyakumari-Madurai and Madurai-Rameswaram.
