I want to know just how to plan it. I will be on a budget, and I need to find the best deals for travel and accommodation. Is it possible to travel cheaply and conveniently all around by train, bus etc, or is it best to hire a car? Is there adequate parking everywhere? I will be in the country areas and will avoid big cities.

travel between big cities is easy fast and efficient (though not always cheap) … travel in country areas is problematic and, yes, you would need a car … there’s adequate parking in country areas but NOT in big cities (it’s a nightmare in cities) … it’s not always cheap to travel by car but in country areas there really isn’t an alternative unless you use even more expensive taxis … there’s loads of car hire companies and you might get a reasonable deal in with your flights if you’re coming from abroad so check that out … petrol is a lot more expensive than many other countries, currently I’m paying around 95p per litre
however, if you’re coming from the US you’re probably going to find our driving conditions quite challenging … our roads, especially the smaller country roads, are narrower and you’ll have to learn how to manage roundabouts … look up the UK Highway Code on the internet and make sure you’re familiar with the rules
one big advantage of having a car is that you frequently can get better deals at places like motel chains, e.g. Travelodge … they have motels at places like motorway service stations that are only accessible by car with very cheap rates … currently Travelodge have £19 a night rooms on offer which you might want to have a look at
There are several budget airlines in the UK and it is often cheaper to fly from one area in the UK to another than any other means of public transport or even traveling by car as petrol is expensive. Then you could hire a car in that area to get around. The best deals are usually when you book a few weeks in advance.
There are some very good hostels and budget hotels, they are often in beautiful remote places.
Parking in country areas is usually not a problem. There are usually parking areas at all beauty spots and tourist attractions.

Carina and Jas have given you some extremely good advice, however I would just like to add that to hire a car in the UK you generally have to be at least 25. Some companies will hire to people at 21 to 24yrs of age, but that will cost an awful lot more because of insurance costs. You may need to factor that into your budget.
I’m assuming you are coming from the US. Here are a few things to bear in mind:
Petrol (gas) is ridiculously expensive. Around 85p per litre. Roughly $6 per US gallon. Diesel is dearer. Both have just started creeping up in price, having recently come down from the stratosphere.
Unless you specify it at the time of booking you will not get a car with an automatic transmission. Automatic cars are relatively rare in the UK.
Sounds really obvious, but we drive on the left. All of your ingrained instincts will be wrong. Especially on country roads, where there will be few visual clues to remind you what side of the road you should be on.
Don’t let this put you off, but be aware.
