We’re looking for a newborn baby travel system where the car seat can be converted from rear facing to front facing as they baby grows. Any opinions/feedback on this? Optimal cost would be an added advantage but safety, lower weight etc are paramount.
Thx

I wasn’t aware that they made ones like that. Usually, the travel system only includes an infant car seat which the baby grows out of by the time they are 6 to 9 months or so. At that time, they still need a rear-facing carseat, but a bigger one (usually a convertible car seat). I like the Graco travel system b/c the infant car seat has a great safety rating.
Graco makes some fantastic options. I would go to babies r us and pick their brains as they have the latest in gear available. Find an older sales rep or somebody who has actually had kids there and you will get some great feedback.
They don’t make them like that.
Your best bet is probably to get a convertable carseat, a sling and a good lightweight stroller.
It’s not good for them to stay in the carseat very long, anyway.
So, you can use the convertable carseat backwards and reclined and then when you go somewhere, simply move the child from the carseat to the sling, and later to the stroller (tiny infants don’t like being away from mommy, so a sling is the best place for them.
So for optimum safety, you would want a britax:
A good lightweight stroller:
And a good sling maybe like one of these (although there are soo many different styles and kinds… you may think about a wrap, or a carrier instead… just stay away from the snuglis, or infantinos… basically anything you can buy in a store, order one from online it will be much better quality!)http://www.hotslings.com/
If you are talking about a travel system as a carseat/stroller combo, there isnt a convertible carseat available with any of those.
My advice would be to find a travel system you like and go from there. Walmart has the Pooh Days of Hunny set for about $150, the stroller is awesome, and the carseat alone is $70 (cheapest Graco one Ive seen!).
I started asking around at stores to find out when their floor models would be sold, and ended up with the Graco Meridian ($170) for $65.
Walmart, Sears and Babies R Us are all great for this.
You can also try Burlington Coat Factory, etc.
Any convertible carseat that is comfortable for a small baby is going to cost at least $150 in my experience, because most of the lower cost ones dont recline as much. I went with the Britax Marathon, hoping that the higher weight limit of 65lbs would help us avoid the situation we had with the older one, where we went though a forward facing seat and two boosters. I found the Marathon on sale for $209, down from $280.
Good luck, and remember please that your baby’s safety is #1.
