I am planning a trip where I want to travel from Bangkok to Hat Yai (where I will catch a train to Kuala Lumpar). I plan to have about 8 days in Thailand. Can anyone suggest the best route, the best things to see and do and the best ways to travel without wasting too much of my day on public transport! Thanks

fly its cheap enough now, you could fly down to Phuket spend some time there and then fly to Hat Yai.
you can pick up flights at the airport from around 15 pound to maximum 80 pounds from Bangkok to phuket, last time i flew Phuket to Hat Yai cost me less than a tenner 540 baht.
The train takes a while its OK if you do take the train take the overnight sleeper first class, saves you accommodation for the night. Other nice places to stay on the way is Krabi, Railay beach is wicked
Suggested Itinerary.
Day One Bangkok
Day Two Bangkok Grand palace etc
Day Three Fly to Phuket (Nok Air are a good cheap airline)
Day Four Beach’s and explore Phuket
Day Five Ferry to Phi Phi Island
Day Six Ferry to Railey Beach
Day Seven Basic climbing course on Railay
Day Eight Travel to Had Yai either Mini Bus about five pounds and about 4 hours of Fly.
If any of that interest’s you leave a comment or send me an e-mail adventure2love@yahoo.com and I can give more details also advise if budget of rooms etc
Yeah the best way is by the train from Hualampolong station in Bkk.But be very careful in the South of Thailand esp if your travelling alone there is huge conflict down there at the moment with the Muslims and many bombing if you ask any Thai they will advise you to go no where near the South.Very Dangerous
Take a air asia flight, cheap
I would recommend the train from Bangkok to Hat Yai. The buses take equally as long or longer, but they usually have the air conditioning turned up so high that you feel like you’re in a refrigerator for 16 hours or longer. You’ll probably have few rest stops with the train.
You can get a sleeper car with or without air con. The air con cars go fast so make your plans as quickly as you can. The non air compartments aren’t bad except when the train stops and the air isn’t circulating as well.
There is a nice park with a small zoo on the outskirts of Hat Yai. If you continue up the hill, there’s a nice temple at the top of the hill with a great view of the town. I recommend the visiting the temple with the beautiful view.
Good Luck and I’m extremely jealous!
